100% Zero-emissions trucks is the 2035 goal of the California drayage trucking industry. For the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach efforts to cultivate this into a reality have already begun. Beginning April 1st, 2022, a fine of $10 per 20-foot equivalent unit will be imposed on non-compliant loaded drayage trucks entering or leaving container terminals.
With an aspiring goal of decreasing port pollution, the expected income from the fine is 45 million dollars annually. “The clean truck fund rate is just one component of the funding needed to achieve our ambitious goals,” says Jean Cerocca, executive director of the Port of Los Angeles.
