Muna Tewolde Appointed to the Pacific Transportation Association's Board of Directors

Founded in 1920, the Pacific Transportation Association (PTA) has been a prominent advocate for the Bay Area’s trade and transportation industry. As the largest transportation association on the West Coast, the PTA fosters collaboration among carriers, shippers, and the communities they serve. The PTA is dedicated to advancing the maritime sector by supporting the education, training, and career development of future mariners and transportation professionals. Through its long-standing partnership with the California Maritime Academy (Cal Maritime) in Vallejo, California, the PTA established the Annual Scholarship and recently launched a new scholarship program to support students pursuing careers in transportation, supply chain, logistics, and maritime studies, helping to shape the industry’s future.

The PTA hosts a range of educational and networking events each year to keep members informed, connected, and engaged, while also advocating for initiatives that support the growth of the San Francisco Bay Area as a global trade hub. Notable events include:

  • Summer Networking Mixer Featuring Port/Terminal Updates: Industry experts and speakers provide insights on the state of the supply chain, regulations, and other key topics affecting the industry.
  • Annual Golf Tournament: This event raises funds for the scholarship program, benefiting California Maritime Academy cadets, PTA members pursuing degrees in supply chain or logistics, and the children of PTA members headed to college.
  • Holiday Mixer and Food Drive: Attendees contribute non-perishable food items to the Alameda County Community Food Bank, with all event proceeds directed toward supporting the cause.

In addition to these events, PTA is actively involved in a variety of organizations, including:

  • California Association of Port Authorities
  • Pacific Merchant Shipping Association
  • American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA)
  • United States Maritime Administration (MARAD)
  • World Trade Organization, and more.
